An economy hydrometer is an affordable ($6–$15) tool for measuring liquid density to calculate specific gravity, potential alcohol, and Brix in homebrewing. Most commonly, a Triple Scale Hydrometer is used for beer and wine, while a Proof and Tralle Hydrometer is specifically used for distilled spirits. They are generally 10–12 inches long.
